arsenal 3: July and August

We are making reference to several of the themes from our July and August cinema program on our streaming platform arsenal 3 .

Based on the “Brazilian Mythscapes” program curated by Marina Carvalho, we are presenting a comprehensive retrospective of the artistic duo Distruktur (Melissa Dullius und Gustavo Jahn) from July 1^st to August 31^st. Melissa Dullius, born in Porto Alegre in 1981, and Gustavo Jahn, born in Florianópolis in 1980, moved from southern Brazil to Berlin in 2006, where they started working together as Distruktur. They are founding members of LaborBerlin, an independent analogue film collective.

Distruktur’s films explore the aesthetic possibilities of analogue film. Their work transcends the boundaries between art and film, experimental and narrative cinema, moving and still images. Combining film, photography, and performative elements full of intensive colors, their narratives are rich in associations, shifting between documentary and surreal gestures to give their filmss a mysterious dimension. Alongside eight shorts from 2006 to 2021, we will also be showing their two features MUITO ROMÂNTICO (Brazil/Germany 2016) and ORÁCULO (Brazil 2021).
